The Spaces Between

Project created in collaboration with Studio Smink & Rowena Wyles.

During the 2021 lockdown, I teamed up with Studio Smink and Rowena Wyles for a project about the De Wallen district in my home town of Amsterdam.

The future of Amsterdam's most well-known neighborhood is currently a big point of discussion, since the city government introduced plans to limit mass tourism and clean up the area. Others fear the gentrification of a historical part of the city and displacement of those who work there currently.

The quietness of the lockdown gave us a chance to ask the residents how they felt, and we combined their interviews with animated photoscans of the area in this short film.

The project was shown at Felix Meritis Amsterdam and FIBER Festival 2021.
